The Five Levels of Leadership: Summary

As we jump into the world of leadership it’s best to understand what leadership is and how people respond to it in the real world. As such I feel it is necessary to discuss one of my favorite authors books, “The Five Levels of Leadership” by John Maxwell.

John Maxwell is a distinguished individual and a master in the art of leadership. He has written over 70 books about leadership and even maintains his own leadership blog, (you can check out his blog for yourself here!). John was identified as the #1 leader in business by the American Management Association in 2014  as well as the worlds most influential leadership expert by Business Insider and Inc. Magazine.

In his book, John talks about what it means to be a leader and how they’re are five levels of leadership  one can achieve with one being the lowest, and most basic, to five being a model for what most leaders should strive for.

In short the five levels of leadership include…5_Levels_of_Leadership__85464_zoom

  1. Position- The level of rights.
  2. Permission- The level of relationships.
  3. Production- The level of Results.
  4. People development- The level of reproduction.
  5. Personhood- The level of respect.

During my next few blogs I will be sure to dive into further detail about exactly what these levels entail. But for now if your intrigued feel free to check out Mr. Maxwell’s book which is available at Amazon.com

What makes a Leader?

Leadership is personal. It can define and shape ones actions. Proper leadership can develop and grow a small business and transform it into a multi-million dollar corporation. Conversely bad leadership can topple empires. Leadership could be described as the point of a spearhead. Wherever the point goes,   the rest of the spear will follow.

Nearly everyone desires to be a leader in some Leadership Sharpiecapacity or another. Many in fact can recall leaders who have helped shape their lives.  But few know exactly how or what it means to lead. Like tasting a word on the tip of your tongue without actually being able to say what the word is, leadership is easier to recognize than attempt.

It the purpose of this blog to step back and analyze leadership from both a personal and business perspective to better yourself and the decisions you make on a daily basis.
